Methods

Some Medication Abortions during the 1st trimester:

• RU486 – “The Abortion Pill” – Mifeprex/Mifepristone with Misoprostol – 4-7 wks after LMP
• Methotrexate with Misoprostol
• Misoprostol Only

 Any “Medication Abortion” method carries the risk of complications, such as bleeding or infection!

Some Surgical Abortions during the 1st trimester:

• Manual Vacuum Aspiration – up to 7 weeks after LMP
•  Suction Curettage –  6-14 weeks after LMP

Some Surgical Abortions during the 2nd & 3rd trimesters

• Dilation & Evacuation (D&E) – 13-24 weeks after LMP
• Dilation & Extraction (D&X) – “partial birth abortion” --  20-24 weeks LMP to full term

All “Surgical Abortion” methods carry the risk of long & short-term complications (possibly life-threatening)
